Gay Marriage Definition

gay marriage definition
Why is religion detemining the definition of marriage?

My entire life I have been told that church and state are to be seperate. This makes sense being that there are so many religions out there. But when it comes to gay marriage everyone keeps referring back to different religious definitions of it. And I believe the definition to begin with was based on religious beliefs. We need to decide as a state filled with many different people what is fair to us as a people, putting aside our religious beliefs.

The nature of marriage has been in flux since its origins and don’t you dare let anyone tell you differently. For goodness sakes, marriage for love has only been around for about 800 years or so! Marriage existed LONG before that. It was NOT a unique creation of Christianity and it does not “belong” to any faith or sect.

When defining CIVIL marriage, religion needs to stay out of the picture completely. Church & state ARE separate and we all need to keep that in mind, no matter how forcefully our religious convictions may persuade us to siphon faith-based standards into secular law. The U.S. Constitution DOES guarantee religious liberty, meaning none of us can be forced to live by rules and behavioral mandates of specifically religious origin. The law must remain secular in order to give EVERYONE the same chance to adhere to whatever faith (or lack thereof) they so choose.

Banning same-sex marriage on the grounds that any belief system or “deity” opposes it is unconstitutional.

But how do Amer…
