Gay marriage question?
Portugal.
Sorry btw
So. The current government of my country plans on legalizing gay marriag if they win elections again in October. I do believe they’ll win the election and therefore they’ll have to legalize gay marriage.
One question though. From recents pools it seems that a far majority of people ( 70%) is against gay marriage. Will it prevent gay marriage from happening? Can they do the same which happened in California? Will we need to vote?
Thanks. =)
Okay Nick, your question confused me for a moment then realized Y!A put your edit back words…ha ha…
The Portuguese Civil Code currently bans same-sex marriage, But in 2001 homosexual couple’s got some rights from the government. Since the election of Portugal’s Prime Minister (José Sócrates), He stated if re-elected he will introduce a bill for same-sex marriage. Altho that bill doesn’t include adoption at all. =/
Because homosexuality used to be a big crime in portugal in 1880’s i think the country’s citizens are going to have a mass of opinion, homosexuality has been considered a crime then normal then a crime over and over again there till the last few decades.
In 2008 42% of people polled in portugal were for same-sex marriage.
Also with in the past decades homophobic cases are becoming less tolerated.
And Nick, you’ve told me that the Gay population isn’t too *out* or something like that… well in Lisbon, Algarve and Porto the Gay scene is pretty big actually, Annual gay pride parades there attract tens of thousands of people.
Overall i think same-sex marriage their from what i hear can go either way really… i don’t know if i’m right or not but i’ve given you Information i know.
