My uncle told me he was gay and than asked me to tell my dad and mum before my sisters wedding?
My uncle told me he was gay and that he plans on introducing his boyfriend to everyone at my sisters wedding. No one knows he is gay. The man is flying in from England to Sydney so that he can meet the family and my uncle and come out. The thing is my uncle must feel a little guilty that he is coming out at my sisters wedding because he asked ME to tell my mum and dad and sister. I do not feel I should have to do this but I do think my parents and especially my sister needs to know. What do I do? Do I do the deed which is not really fair or should I demand he do it? I am not even sure how I would tell them my sister is under so much pressure as it is. Any advice?
I think he is asking me to do this because we have always been close and honestly I have suspected for a while he is gay. Although, he always came off to others as a womanizer I kinda saw through it. I love him but I also think its wrong that he is asking me to do this.
I suggest you call your uncle and tell him that that it is not appropriate for him to ask you to disclose this information. It is something that MUST come from him. Very unfair of him to place this kind of pressure on you.
As the previous write mentioned, the wedding day is your sisters special day, and all attention should be on her. Perhaps you can suggest to your uncle that he travel with his partner to Aus and attend wedding as his friend. He could come out to your family after the wedding. If he decided to come out to family before the wedding it would still not have to be a big issue unless word gets around. You could all make a pact to keep this information between yourselves. This kind of thing is not as big a deal as it was a few decades ago. Don’t underestimate your parents ability to be understanding and compassionate.
